The earliest photographic document attesting to the existence of The "Gran Caffè Orientale" is a rare photo taken May 28, 1893 on the occasion of the inauguration of the monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi. Behind the joyous, flag-waving crowd of Parma citizens celebrating the event can be seen the sign reading "Caffè Orientale".
